作者：布莱恩•加纳是《布莱克法律词典》当前所有版本的主编，也是安东宁•斯卡利亚法官《斯卡利亚和加纳的案例:说服法官的艺术》一书的合著者。加纳毕业于德克萨斯大学法学院，曾任教于南卫理公会大学德德曼法学院，是该校杰出的法学研究教授。

从德克萨斯大学法学院毕业后，他为美国第五巡回上诉法院法官Thomas M. Reavley做助理，然后在达拉斯的一家大公司实习。然后他开始教书，先是在他的母校，现在在南卫理公会大学法学院。
