Dedicated to S.T.Coleridge, this collection of miscellaneous writings in verse and prose was gathered together by Lamb at the suggestion of the young bookseller Charles Ollier. Its publication brought Lamb wide recognition. Included are some works, such as 'John Woodvil' and 'Rosamund Gray', which had been long out of print, as well as well as several by Mary Lamb.
