本书的修订是在调研众多使用院校意见的基础上进行的。提高级不再像第三版一样以体裁来区分单元，而是根据当前研究生学术英语教学的特点，以学科专业和主题进行单元区分，涵盖了经管、法律、人文、医学、农林等大类学科和主题。教材选取各学科专业*的、*代表性的文章替换上一版过时的文章，所选内容注重新颖性、时效性、批判性和语言的规范性，激发学生兴趣，引起学生展开讨论。每课课文后配有有关阅读技巧和课文主题的大量的练习、课文中的生词表、注释、作者及文章背景介绍等，帮助学生掌握阅读技巧的同时，拓展其学术英语的知识，培养学术英语能力。提高级的课后练习与基础级在难度上进行衔接，方便教师进行延续性教学。

作者简介：

周红红，北京交通大学语言与传播学院公共英语教学部教授。曾荣获北京交通大学获青年教师讲课比赛大奖，先后被评为铁道部优秀教师、铁道部青年拔尖人才和北京市高等院校优秀青年骨干教师并被北京交通大学聘为首届优秀主讲教师。2018-2022年教育部高等学校外国语言文学类专业教学指导委员会英语专业教学指导分委员会委员。表过教学、科研论文数十余篇，主编教材多部。邓耘，贵州大学外国语学院大外部副主任兼任公共外语教研室主任。副教授,硕士生导师，英国拉夫堡大学访问学者。研究方向为跨文化交际、中西文化对比、教学法及教学策略。2013年获得贵州省优秀教学成果奖二等奖；2017年获得贵州省研究生教学成果奖二等奖。主持并参与国家级、教育部、省教育厅、校级项目共10余项；发表论文近20篇；主编高校教材5部。
