本书是北京市高等教育精品教材立项项目，可作为大学英语提高阶段的通选课教材，采用纸质教材与电子教程相结合的编写模式，配有题集。第二版更新了国情介绍的数据和新情况，并对部分内容的详略进行了调整。纸质版教材：供课堂使用，内容包括美国、加拿大、英国、爱尔兰、澳大利亚和新西兰等英语六国概况，任课教师可根据要求和情况对上述进行选择。电子教程光盘：电子教程光盘供拓展学使用，内容更加丰富，为课堂内容的拓展与延伸，包含大量精美插图和音资料；涵盖六大部分内容，分为美国、加拿大、英国、爱尔兰、澳大利亚、新西兰，以及新加坡、南非和印度等九国的概况，分为十八章进行介绍。配套题：有各类练题七百余道。每节附练题10题（ection exercie），题型式包括正误判断、多项选择和连线等客观题型；每章后附综合练题1520题（chapter exercie）主要形式为填空、短语解释和简答等主观题型。练题部分的设计可为通过四、试和英语入学试提供帮助。配套题附于电子教程上。向授课老师课件。
作者简介：
訾缨，北京林业大学外语学院教授。 在高校英语21年中，先后主讲过英语专业、涉外专业和大学英语各专业的英语精读、泛读、视听说、语法与试指导、英美概况、大学英语、综合英语、英语等课程。主编英语综合技能培养与提高大学英语试教程等教材、工具书和参书18部。主持过教改课题5项。 发表研究12篇。曾获省部级社科专著一项、3项。
