    贡布里希，全名：E.H.贡布里希(sir E．H．Gombrich)(1909—2001)，英国艺术史家。贡布里希出生于一九O九年三月三十日，于奥地利首都维也纳，后移居于英国并加入英国国籍。早年受教于维也纳大学，并获得博士学位。1939—1949年供职于英国广播公司侦听部。1936年和伊尔莎·海勒（Ilse Heller）结婚；一子。2001年11月3日在英国逝世，享年92岁。

    他的父亲Dr.Karl B.combrich为一著名的律师，同时具有深厚地人文素养。他的母亲Lenonie combrich Hock为钢琴老师，并且于当时重要的音乐家及作曲家们来往密切，如Gustav Mahler(1860-1911)Amold Schoenberg(1874-1951)等人。他是艺术史、艺术心理学和艺术哲学领域的大师级人物。他有许多世界闻名的著作，其中《艺术的故事》从1950年出版以来，已经卖出400万册。当然，贡氏的书不止是给艺术工作者看的。搞科学的，哲学的，历史的，心理学的都可以看，说不定还会有意外收获。

    对贡氏理论的四个印象：

    1、贡氏的书中高度评价了阿拉伯建筑装饰艺术，特别提到阿尔汉布宫的精湛，华美装饰。

    2、《秩序感》图版引用了凯尔特人的一面青铜镜子......凯尔特装饰技法与几何学有很大关系，在操作中能培养学生的创造力。

    3、贡氏在论述对称与对称破缺，秩序与混沌，装饰与素朴等对立性质对于艺术的关系时，特别强调两极之间的张力。

    4、贡布里希在书中不少篇幅谈到艺术与科技进步的关系。
