《胡适英文文存 1 ：中国文学与社会》结集胡适自1914年到1961年前后的重要英文论文及演讲28篇。

全书横向以主题分类，可见胡适在这两方面主要的论点和贡献，纵向以发表时间为序编排，可见胡适于这两方面思想发展的脉络。

本书以胡适发表时的原文影印本为底本，经仔细查证和勘误，旨在让中外读者更加了解胡适向世界介绍中国文化的传统及其近现代发展方面发挥的作用。

《胡适英文文存 2 ：中国哲学与思想史》由普林斯顿大学东亚系教授周质平，编选胡适自1919年到1962年前后的重要英文论文及演讲27篇，主要包括关于中国历史、文化、哲学、宗教及中西文化关系的研究和介绍，既论述了中国古代哲学史从老子到韩非诸子哲学思想的历史演变，又对自汉至北宋的中古时期哲学（包括董仲舒、王充等）、唐以后近世时期哲学（包括印度哲学、佛教、禅宗的影响和发展、程朱、陆王）作了考察和分析。

《胡适英文文存 3 ：民族危机与公共外交》选录胡适自1912至1944年间撰写和演讲的英文文献，胡适作为中国驻美国大使向美国乃至世界宣传中国抗战的性质与国际意义，争取美国和国际社会对中国的同情与支持。

胡适（1891—1962），安徽绩溪人。现代著名学者、诗人、历史家、文学家、哲学家、思想家。因提倡文学革命而成为新文化运动的领袖之一。兴趣广泛，著述宏富，在文学、哲学、史学等诸多领域都有开创性的贡献；英文写作、演讲能力俱佳，致力于向西方介绍中国历史文化，影响深远。历任北京大学文学院院长、中国驻美国大使、“中央研究院”院长等职。

周质平，1947年生于上海，1970年毕业于台北东吴大学中文系，1974年获台中东海大学硕士学位，1982年获美国印第安纳大学博士学位。现任普利斯顿大学东亚系教授。
